Text

In April 2025, two new musculoskeletal conditions were officially recognized as occupational diseases (ODs) in Germany: rotator cuff injuries caused by long-term and intensive strain, and knee osteoarthritis in professional football players. The background and scientific rationale behind these new entries will be illustrated. This leads to a broader question for discussion: Can harmonisation of occupational diseases across Europe (and beyond) be achieved through the application of evidence-based medicine?
