Text

Background: Gathered Resonance: Phygital Pathways to Empathy, Healing & Collective Creativity is a new workshop by Innative Lab that deepens the integration of movement, neurofeedback, and immersive art. Building on insights from neuroscientist and dancer Dr. Hanna Poikonen, adviser to Innative Lab, the workshop explores how embodied practices and neural synchrony support empathy and collective wellbeing.

Objectives: The workshop aims to

  1. enhance self-awareness through AI-enhanced interpretation of brain activity;
  2. promote interpersonal empathy via collective brain synchrony;
  3. cultivate intuitive artistic expression; and
  4. offer an accessible, healing-oriented introduction to brain-art interactions.

Methods: Participants engage in guided somatic movement and intuitive dance while wearing non-invasive BCIs. This workshop employs AI-based filtering and analysis to refine neural data, capturing subtle shifts in attention and emotional tone. An AI-driven audiovisual engine generates dynamic projections that adapt in real time to both individual and group neural patterns, creating a sensitive and responsive phygital environment.

Results: The AI-enhanced system produces smoother, more accurate mappings between internal states and artistic output, increasing participants’ sense of attunement and immersion. Collective neural synchrony is rendered with greater clarity, reinforcing shared presence and emotional resonance.

Conclusion: This workshop demonstrates how neurofeedback, dance, and AI can converge to foster empathy, healing, and collective creativity. It offers a novel, human-centred model for participatory neuro-art practices within therapeutic and artistic contexts.
