The Somatic Bridge – A Clinical-Artistic Framework for Collective Repair

Bakht Arif - LCSW-C,2 CCTP

Text

This workshop, The Somatic Bridge, offers an immersive exploration into Embodied Research: Practice as a Site of Knowledge, designed specifically for international arts and medicine practitioners. Led by a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and Clinical Social Worker, the session bridges the gap between performing arts and clinical rigor to address trauma across the human lifespan. Participants will engage in a structured, two-hour process that moves from individual “Lifeline” mapping to collaborative skills rehearsal, simulating real-world interventions in high-stakes environments such as correctional facilities and post-conflict zones.

Central to this workshop is the integration of psychoeducation; as a therapist in residence with global experience from New Delhi to New York, I guide practitioners in safely navigating traumatic memories that may emerge during creative execution. By emphasizing the rehearsal of clinical containment alongside artistic expression, the program ensures that healing is both transformative and psychologically grounded. We conclude by drafting a Collective Agenda, transforming immediate insights into sustainable Future Impact, Practice & Policy. This ensures the workshop’s outcomes resonate beyond the event, equipping a global cohort to implement resilient, art-based care models that foster lasting cultural and community repair.
