Text

Music is felt and experienced in myriad ways beyond the auditory sense. It is well-documented that these experiences shape and influence health and well-being, as well as other salutary effects that are measurable. This workshop will provide attendees with the opportunity to record sensory, emotional, and perhaps spiritual perceptions as listeners are exposed to a multimedia piece involving orchestra and non-narrative video. The choral portion of this composition (Fate Overture and Aria) will then serve as a platform for workshop participant in experiencing the effects on sensation (e.g., ambient pain), mood, attitude, well-being, anxiety and other sensory-emotional variables, as they recreate this canon together under Presenter direction. Preceding this, participants will be led through a series of breathing and vocalizing exercises, with discussion of perceived physiologic and psychologic effects. These measures will be recorded using standard, validated tools. The presenters will collate pre- and post- passive and active phases of the Workshop and post results for participants (and other conference attendees) viewing.
