Paddy farmers perspective on foot care and their modalities for prevention of foot injuries

Introduction: India is an agriculture-based country; a large portion of the population depends on agriculture. India is one of the largest producers of most of the food crops, but Paddy (rice) is the main crop in this country. Occupational disorders are the causes of lost workdays, inefficient performance by workers, and medical costs. Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are among the most common causes of occupational injuries and disabilities. This study was done to explore the understanding and perspectives of paddy farmers on foot care.
Methods: In-depth interviews were conducted among the paddy farmers over a two-month period. Analysis of data was done using thematic analysis.
Results: The paddy farmers experienced work-related disorders, including lower back pain, foot injuries, cuts, and ulcers. The foot care is less due to not using of appropriate personal protective equipment.
Discussion: The personal protective equipment best fit for the paddy farmer is highly recommended to avoid work-related injuries.
Conclusion: Foot care is less common among the paddy farmers. Intensive educational programs to use personal protective equipment and prevent foot injuries.
