<MainHeadline>Text</MainHeadline><Pgraph><Mark1>Objectives and questions: </Mark1>Dynamic knee stability is a crucial element in injury prevention, particularly regarding anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries. Inertial measurement units (IMUs) allow quantification of post-impact tibial accelerations, yet objective criteria for knee stability remain limited. This study aimed to evaluate three IMU-derived parameters— Σ (damping strength), τ (decay speed) and Tsettle (stabilization time)—during landing tasks in healthy young adults, and to assess how these parameters change after a standardized fatigue protocol.</Pgraph><Pgraph><Mark1>Material and methods: </Mark1>A total of 97 healthy adults (18–40 years) were recruited and completed the pre‑fatigue protocol. Tibial acceleration during two single-leg tasks—the Single-Leg Hop for Distance (Distance Hop) and the Single-Leg Drop Jump (Drop Jump)—was recorded using XSENS IMUs at 240 Hz. Participants performed both tasks before and after a 60‑second squat‑jump fatigue protocol. Σ, τ and Tsettle were computed from resultant tibial accelerations within the first 100 ms after Initial Contact. Pre–post differences, leg dominance effects and sex differences were analysed using paired and independent statistical tests as appropriate.</Pgraph><Pgraph><Mark1>Results: </Mark1>In the Distance Hop, fatigue produced clear deterioration in knee stability: Dominant leg Σ decreased from –8.86±7.66 to –4.87±8.03, τ decreased from 0.73±3.89 to 0.42±1.23, and Tsettle from 2.87±15.22 to 1.64±4.80 (all p<0.05). Non-dominant leg Σ decreased from –9.32±7.47 to –5.71±7.46, with corresponding increases in τ and Tsettle (p<0.05). By contrast, in the Drop Jump, no significant pre–post fatigue effects were found for any parameter. Across all tasks, Σ showed strong negative correlations with τ and Tsettle (Distance Hop ρ=–0.88; Drop Jump ρ=–0.80), indicating that greater damping strength was associated with faster stabilization. No significant differences were found between dominant and non-dominant legs or between men and women.</Pgraph><Pgraph><Mark1>Discussion and conclusions: </Mark1>IMU-derived parameters Σ, τ and Tsettle provide objective measures of dynamic knee stability within the critical first 100 ms after landing. Fatigue effects were task-dependent, with the Distance Hop demonstrating greater sensitivity than the Drop Jump. While leg dominance and sex did not influence outcomes, the approach shows promise for functional screening and monitoring of neuromuscular control. Such a mobile technique, which can be performed independently of elaborate and expensive gait laboratories, could be easily adopted not only to monitor training in athletes but also to evaluate geriatric patients. Further research should validate these parameters against multi-planar kinematics and in populations with documented knee instability.</Pgraph></TextBlock>
