TextObjective: To describe a case of early postoperative cystoid macular edema (CME) following implantation of a toric posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens (PIOL) and its subsequent management.Method: Case reportResults: A 43-year-old woman underwent uneventful bilateral PIOL implantation for the correction of high myopia and astigmatism. She presented with reduced visual acuity and unilateral metamorphopsia on the first postoperative day. Optical coherence tomography revealed pronounced CME with pronounced subretinal and outer retinal fluid accumulation. Topical dorzolamide was added to the existing topical therapy, and edema had resolved 1 week postoperatively.Conclusion: The cause of early CME after PIOL implantation is unclear. Further reports of this presumably rare but probably underreported complication are needed.
